Ok, so I'm really enjoying working on the SC Kids Activities website. To me this is a lot of fun because I realize that a lot of parents are going to be getting some extremely valuable information out of this, like what on earth they are going to do with their kids to keep the boredom from setting in.
I've been experimenting with a couple of additions to the site, including tie-ins to both Twitter and Facebook for people to follow us on Twitter or like the content on Facebook. They are both really well written plugins, although, at the moment, the Facebook one is playing a little bit hard to get so to speak.
The most important aspect of this site is going to be the content and especially the calendar system. I'm trying out JEvents which is a fantastic Joomla component with a lot of nice features right out of the box for their non-commercial version while still giving you the option of a nice and full featured commercial version for a really great price. The extensibility of this component cannot be understated.
The gallery is a very nice cooliris gallery and as long as I can find a good compromise on the optimization level, I think it will really fly and be a cool look for the pictures. Otherwise we could go to some other type of photo gallery component but I'm hoping that this one works out well overall. Theoretically a good optimization plan is essential for any photo gallery, retaining optimum optics all the while minimizing the size of the image and thus the load on the server.
The next little bit of work will be devoted to getting RSS feeds up and running for not only the calendar but for the soon to be created blog for Carrie. Any thoughts on the site would be greatly appreciated and don't forget to sign up to get on our mailing list. Once our sponsors are lined up, the deals will be flowing freely. Thanks for the read.
