New site ideas

A friend of mine and I decided to start working on a site just recently (actually 2 of them) and we were trying hard to come up with a way to make an additional revenue stream available to us with these sites. We're not trying to be millionaires here, but would like to bring in enough money to buy a 12 pack of our favorite beers every once in a while. So we decided to do some keyword analysis to find out what search terms were hitting big and we came up with a couple of good ones but still, we think we missed the home run so to speak.

This brings me to the point of this blog entry. What do you think we should base the site on? What's truly missing on the internet and what could we contribute to the betterment of you, the surfers extraordinaire of the internet? Here are some of the thoughts that we've been having

  • Some kind of working from home site
  • Some kind of social gathering site (not like facebook) think more “in real life and in person”
  • Some kind of cooking or food related site (lot of those out there of course)
  • Some kind of sports statistics site
  • Some kind of music rating and reviews site
  • Some kind of home organization site
  • Some kind of family oriented site like kids games and such

So, what do you think? What have you thought, “I'd like to know more about … “ and realized there's no easy answer for it anywhere on the net? Personally I'd like to know more about making money by just sitting on my couch playing video games ;) but I certainly don't think that's a viable way to make a living.

All thoughts are welcome, but if you flame, expect to be humiliated and then deleted or vice versa whichever way suits me better at the time I'm writing my response.

The idea of building the basis of a site based loosely on an idea, to me, is kind of enjoyable, I have no preconceived notion about colors, look and feel, or images at all, so it's a total blank canvas. There's a lot to be said for building something from the ground up don't ya think?
